A Word To The Wise ...

As most of you know I have MS which I choose to treat with the disdain I believe it deserves.  Anyway (there must be another word for anyway but I can't find it) so anyway I was diagnosed with Diabetes oh I don't know 10 or 15 years ago.  I've not taken any more notice of this than I have of the MS to be perfectly truthful.

So what's happened that makes me use the title I've used?  I have a blood glucose meter that I've had since I was diagnosed.  Okay it's not the original meter and I've been through a few because like everything else I needed to have the latest that was available so one went to two .... and you know the rest.  So maybe 10 meters later I got this phonecall from a doctor - not my doctor, but another one from the practice we belong to, and it had been pre-booked to go through my medication and after we went through it all she told me I that as my HbA1c has been so good I don't need to test my bloods anymore.

Nevertheless (I went into word and typed in anyway and then went to the Thesaurus and got nevertheless instead of anyway) I haven't been feeling well for quite a while and blamed the MS - well you do, don't you?!?  I do!!!  So last week I had an appointment with my doctor and told her what was going on that I was really itchy, incredibly tired and sleeping like all night and well into the next day, really really irritable (not like me at all usually) as well and I can't remember what else I said was wrong (okay okay it was Thrush).  My doctor is really great and she said "I think it's your diabetes".  And I said no way - that doctor that phoned said I had it really under control and don't need to test my blood anymore.  So after Jo (my doctor) said it might be the diabetes I decided to test my blood.  Here in the U.K. your levels are meant to be between 4 and 7 and mine was 17.9!!!  Which was way way too high.

So now I've gone onto the internet to see what this can cause.  I went to the Diabetes U.K. Website this is what I found:

"People with diabetes are being denied the chance to monitor their blood glucose levels because vital test strips are being rationed to save money, according to a new report by Diabetes UK."

So I guess this is what was behind that dumb doctor - okay she wasn't dumb ... I was because I listened to her.  I never questioned why she said I didn't need to test my blood anymore.   I mean you don't question doctors now do you?  Well I didn't - at least not until now.  I also don't go looking for trouble that's why I don't look up stuff on the internet.  I basically just don't want to know what might happen or could happen.

So my word to the wise is : Be responsible for your own wellbeing and take notice of what your body is telling you.

I don't want to leave you without a photo so here you go:
